WHAT IS THAT FUNNY SYMBOL?

It is a “KORU”.

koru

The “koru”, which is used in Maori art as a symbol of creation, is based on the shape of an unfurling fern frond. It reaches towards the light, striving for perfection, encouraging new positive beginnings. The koru therefore represents the unfolding of new life, that everything is reborn and continues. It represents renewal and hope for the future.

The reason the “koru” was chosen for our logo is not only that our original coach is a native of New Zealand but also that the meaning fits our team.  Many of us are coming back to swimming after long absences.  Our new swimmer may be getting involved in swimming for the first time.  But more importantly, our community outreach programs are giving new and exciting opportunities to new groups of people, many of whom would never had access to a pool, let alone professional instruction and training.

East Coast Swimming is truly the “Koru” or rebirth of swimming in South Florida.
